Koh Samui

Koh Samui is the largest island in the Gulf of Thailand, followed by its two smaller “sisters”: Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Diving, snorkeling, swimming, and basking on the picturesque jungle-backed beaches are popular things to do here, as well as boat tours around the sublime seascape of Ang Thong National Marine Park.

Because Koh Samui is the only of the three “sisters” with an airport, most tourists arriving from Bangkok or abroad land here. Regular ferries run between all three islands, however, for example, the trip between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan takes only half an hour, making it easy to island hop and see all the sights.

In addition to all the staples of Thai culture, like magnificent Buddhist temples, vibrant nightlife, bustling street markets, flavorful cuisine, and smiling locals, Koh Samui is also packed to the brim with natural beauty.

From powerful waterfalls and white-sand beaches to the nearby national marine parks, nature and adventure enthusiasts will not be disappointed here.

Ban Tai Beach

Ban Tai is usually divided into two parts, which are very different from each other. One part is covered with boulders and rocks, another is covered with fine white sand. In this regard, a more convenient entrance to the water has a sandy Ban Tai.

The bottom is quite shallow, affected by tides; at this time water goes to 10-12m. For a comfortable swim adults will need to move away from the shore at a sufficiently large distance, but for children Ban Tai is an ideal place. Small tourists can spend the time near water safely, while their parents sunbathe, talk or drink delicious cocktails.

The entrance to the water is difficult thanks to underwater rocks and vegetation, so people need to be careful. Or to find the perfect Ban Tai area with clean bottom. Here people can meet not only other tourists but also the local islanders living nearby.

Ban Tai is quite famous beach, however even during a high season people here can find private place to enjoy the rest, without being distracted by the noise and conversation of strangers.

Angthong National Marine Park

Angthong National Marine Park translates as ‘golden bowl’, occupies almost 250 sq. km and includes 50 sq. km of protected nature area consisting of over 40 islands. All of the islands are uninhabited and undeveloped except for one.

This island, Koh Paluay, is inhabited by “sea-gypsies” who still earn a living from fishing. The islands resemble Koh Samui 40 years ago, prior to the arrival of tourism and modern infrastructure. The Marine Park is famous for its natural beauty untouched by development.

The islands range in size from mere rocks in the deep blue sea to little paradise islands with white beaches and coconut trees. The movie ‘the Beach’ starring Leonardo Di Caprio was inspired by and partially filmed at this location. Being in the Marine Park gives you the feeling of being an explorer, discovering the far ends of the world.

The water is clean, calm and inviting, creating the perfect conditions to explore the park’s hidden treasures.

The true art form of Thai food also involves the delicate carving of fruits and vegetables. By satisfying sight and taste, the creativity makes Thai food an experience unlike any other dining experience.

Over centuries, Thailand and its neighbouring countries mutually influenced one another’s cuisine. The cooking in the South of Thailand has some culinary influences from Indonesia and Malaysia. On the other hand, the cuisine in the north and northeast of Thailand is influenced by Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
